Sponsored rankings for APIs, AI tools and developer products
Understand daily, weekly, monthly and overall sponsored boards, category visibility, verified funding and the boundary between promotion and independent discovery.

Visibility with the rules in view
AltAPIs combines a source-backed discovery archive with a separate sponsored rank market. The archive helps people inspect APIs, open-source repositories and AI models. The market offers clearly labelled advertising positions for eligible products when promotion is available. Buying a position does not add an API to the independent archive, publish a review or improve a source-derived popularity metric. This page explains the mechanism; check the promotion flow for current availability and the sponsorship policy for the applicable purchase rules.
Choose the audience before the amount
Start with the developer or team you want to reach and the problem your product solves. A category view may be more relevant than a broad global view, even if the global board is more prominent. Use a specific product name, a concise factual description and a working destination that matches the campaign. A landing page with clear documentation, access requirements and honest limits gives visitors a useful next step. Funding a position cannot make an unclear product proposition understandable.
Global and category boards answer different questions
The global board compares eligible funding across the category mix. A category board applies the same ordering within the selected recorded category. Always read scope together with period: “number one today in a category” is not “number one overall.” Categories organise paid visibility, not product certification. The independent API archive, GitHub star ranking and Hugging Face popularity lists remain separate discovery routes with their own source descriptions and limitations.
Four periods, one explicit clock
Timed boards use UTC, so the boundary may fall at a different local time for an advertiser or visitor. Daily totals start at 00:00 UTC. Weekly totals start on Monday at 00:00 UTC. Monthly totals start on the first day of the UTC month. The overall board is cumulative rather than a repeating monthly window. Open the relevant board to inspect its current state; an old screenshot does not establish a current sponsored position.
- Daily: eligible funding within the current UTC day
- Weekly: eligible funding within the current UTC week
- Monthly: eligible funding within the current UTC month
- Overall: cumulative eligible funding
How a funded position is ordered
Eligible settled contributions are grouped by destination and ordered by funded total, with the earliest settlement breaking a tie. New quoted boosts contribute to the supported windows containing their settlement time, globally and within their recorded category; legacy period-specific purchases retain their original period. The quote and policy identify what is being purchased. Quotes expire, and another participant can change the board before or after settlement. Neither a preview nor a quote reserves permanent first place.
Payment must be verified before activation
A checkout return, submitted transaction reference or pending payment is not an active placement. The system requires a verified successful payment matched to the internal purchase details before eligible funding contributes to a board. Failed or mismatched payments do not create a funded position. Refunds and disputes can affect eligibility and are handled under the published policy. If checkout is closed, do not send funds to an address found elsewhere or assume a transfer will activate a campaign.
What the placement does not buy
Sponsored visibility does not buy editorial approval, an independent quality score, a verification badge, an endorsement, a backlink intended to manipulate search, or a guaranteed audience. It does not promise clicks, customers, revenue, organic ranking or citation by an AI assistant. Paid destination links are identified as sponsored. Evaluate the opportunity as advertising inventory: decide your budget, check the current rules, understand that rank can change, and make the destination useful to the people who choose to visit.
A practical pre-launch checklist
Review the product category, destination URL, campaign copy, board scope, applicable periods, amount and currency before continuing. Read the disclosure, privacy and refund terms, then keep your campaign access token private. Decide how you will assess relevant visits on your own side without confusing click counts with conversions. After launch, check the board and campaign report. If something is wrong, use the contact route with the campaign reference and a factual description; never send private keys or payment credentials.
