Methodology

How AltAPIs separates source-reported facts, independent discovery, documentation previews and clearly sponsored visibility.

Independent discovery

The API archive is a discovery directory, not a product certification service. Its default order is alphabetical; users can filter reported access facts and view recent additions or updates. GitHub and Hugging Face lists follow their stated source metrics. The dynamic GitHub star ranking sorts the recently observed imported sample by captured total stars. Paid bids, campaign totals and sponsor relationships do not change these independent results.

What a source observation establishes

Imported records link to their source and display the date AltAPIs observed the supplied metadata. “Added” means first discovered by this archive, not the provider’s release date. A star count measures recorded interest, and a model download count is a reported popularity metric—not a test of quality, accuracy or safety. Missing fields stay unreported. Observation dates do not establish current availability, pricing, permissions or compatibility.

Readable documentation with attribution

Eligible public GitHub repositories and Hugging Face models can receive an attributed README or model-card preview of at most 150 words, with a source link, a small heading outline and selected links mentioned by the publisher. These are excerpts, not full copies or generated replacement documentation. The original document remains the reference for installation, intended use, limitations and terms. Publisher-supplied links are not independently verified endorsements.

Refresh cadence and its limits

API directories default to hourly concurrent refreshes; repository and model discovery lists refresh daily. The owner can pause or change the API schedule. Successful documentation previews become eligible for refresh after 24 hours, but a bounded queue, provider rate limits, failed requests or an owner pause can delay the next observation. Documentation is not fetched anew for every visitor. A temporary fetch failure can leave an older successful snapshot visible with its date; unavailable or opted-out documentation is not presented as a current preview.

Execution, reuse and training rights

AltAPIs does not execute repository code or download model weights to create directory records and documentation previews. A project or model license label is source-reported and may not cover every linked document, dataset or dependency. Appearing here does not grant permission to reproduce content, use a model commercially or train another model on it. Confirm the applicable rights and requirements with the original publisher before using those materials.

Commercial treatment

Sponsored positions belong to separate, labelled commercial boards. A daily, weekly, monthly or overall paid position describes eligible funding in its defined window, not independent technical merit. A paid position cannot buy a GitHub star rank, a favorable source fact, editorial approval or a search-engine ranking. Paid destination links are identified as sponsored.

Sponsorship policy

Corrections and documentation opt-outs

Providers, authors and visitors can submit a factual correction with the affected URL and supporting evidence. Documentation rights or opt-out requests should identify the original material and the preview in question. Requests are reviewed; submitting one does not establish that an unsupported claim is true. Hidden or opted-out records are excluded from the public documentation service. Changes to current records do not rewrite the original provider’s content.
